Exhibition information

I’m delighted to be exhibiting in Appleton with Artweeks again this year. I will have a range of new original artwork and greetings cards for sale.

My etchings start as a piece of bare roofing zinc. Then, after planning my image with sketches and photographs, I hand-etch the design onto the metal, using different kinds of wax and acids and techniques to create line and tone. After experimenting with colours and papers, each individual print is carefully inked and wiped back, and then hand-wound through a hand-wound printing press. I love the different processes involved in turning a sheet of bare metal into a beautiful design – full of lines, shade and texture, with each piece being unique.

Printed in limited editions, an original etching is a unique piece of art, and a beautiful and affordable way to add original art to your home.

Artist information

I’m Kat Foxhall, a printmaker specialising in etching. I am based in Uffington, Oxfordshire, where I live with my husband and children.

I took up printmaking after taking evening classes at Leicester Print Workshop, and immediately fell in love with the smell of the inks, and the way that you can use acid, wax and fire to create beauty and intricacy from a sheet of dull metal.

I grew up in rural Devon, where I spent hours exploring, drawing and photographing the overgrown woodlands that had overtaken the old arsenic and copper mine workings of the Tamar Valley. I still find much of my inspiration from the contrasts of nature and human impact on the landscape – from ancient white horses to modern wind turbines and pylons.
