Exhibition information
I am a woodturner working with both indigenous local species and exotic woods to produce one-off practical and sculptural pieces. I am pleased to be exhibiting this year with six other artists as part of the Old School Collective, showing work comprising mixed media art, abstract paintings, ceramics, pyrography, wood turning and miniature 3D worlds.
I began turning full time six years ago and have been steadily developing my practice ever since. I enjoy working with British species, plus the occasional more exotic variety, to produce original pieces which celebrate the natural beauty of the wood and the tonal complexity of the grain. From small makes like pens and tealights to statement bowls, lanterns and vases, each piece aims to manifest the beauty of the material. Much of the wood I work with is locally sourced – from local woodlands and generous neighbour’s gardens – and I am constantly developing new designs and ideas to highlight the elegance and lustre of the grain of wood. Recent additions for this year include “Ikebana” vases based on Japanese flower arranging design and hollow form sculptural pieces.
