Exhibition information

Spending much time in amongst the trees, lakes and wide expanses of dappled light of the French countryside has influenced my work.

I explore the dance between shape and form while maintaining abstraction. As my work moves further and further into abstraction I feel the notion of moving past right and wrong and it  becomes increasingly irrelevant, giving the viewer license to interpret my work, and thus share in the meaning-making of the art.

I use fluid  figurative and natural forms as  reference and line elements, some flesh colours often are part of the  work.

I am motivated by the energy  created by the relationships between colours. The ideas change as each painting progresses and I take different creative turns at various points , very much a ‘creative journey ‘

I  continue to explore new dimensions, pushing the boundaries between intuition and intention.

There is always a challenge in each painting and it is often difficult to recreate the energy of any one time in the next painting. Often interplay of colours and marks happen that are not intentional and that brings their own expressive quality.

Knowing  when a painting is complete is an illusive skill, it is easy to go too far even with one brush stroke of a colour and it the painting feels lost. Often for myself the narrative emerges as the work progresses and I am able to engage on a deeper level. Colour is a strong focus, I see colour combinations and there is a drive to start to paint and so it begins.

I resonate with this quote :- between  abstraction and realism is the  story and narrative

Wild Flower  Exhibition  brings together my work and invites the viewer to collaborate on an intellectual plane where there is no innate correctness, and the second hints at the transient nature of shared moments briefly caught within a painting”
