Exhibition information
My artwork is vibrant due to the colourist approach I have developed, where the colour is often of dominant importance. I use a variety of creative methods, painting, printing and collage.
My upcoming exhibition with Botley Arts is called ‘Pellucid Play’. The artworks are paintings, some large scale and a couple of series of paintings. There is a poem called ‘Know That’ which is about courage to acknowledge imperfections and recognise our value. The poem then invites visitors to document their own ‘Know That’ statement and leave to create a collaborative artwork – so come and join in.
It will be shown at St Peters and St Pauls Church from 25th April until 26th June and all artwork is for sale. It will be open during Oxfordshire Artweeks and there are 25 other artists exhibiting locally, so well worth a visit to the area.
My work regularly experiments with new processes, where nothing is predrawn or marked out – I enjoy just going for it, building up the layers until I am happy with the composition, marks and colour. The freedom to play and make intuitive marks is a big part of my art practice.
My work is inspired by my world – my experiences of nature and connections to the world and people around me as well as my own wellbeing. My creative process and art making is an emotional expression that makes me feel more grounded, supports mental resets and keeps me connected with my community and self.
Considering the environmental impact of my art is important to me and I often paint on found wood (I love going through a skip!) or use canvases multiple times. This means some of my work has a very raw finish and is usually unframed as this imperfect quality is important for me to share as it represents how I try to function in my own life, promoting freedom and permission to play.
Art can seem daunting and even if people are curious they don’t always have the courage to go and see art, thinking its not for them. ‘Pellucid Play’ is an exhibition for everyone, so come with your family to view the artwork in a peaceful haven and boost your wellbeing. Leave your mark by making a collage (during Oxfordshire Artweeks) and joining the collaborative artwork. Hopefully see you there!
Artist information
I started to paint 7 years ago and a couple of years later I had the courage to call myself an ‘artist’. I am a self-taught Oxford based abstract expressionist artist who uses paints, inks, charcoal and pens.
I am a very visual person who notices form, texture and colour when out and about, always having a sketch book to hand! Photos and sketches of these observations then inspire my mixed media artworks.
My own experiences of how creativity can enrich wellbeing has driven my passion to share this and engage and connect with others using art. I work therapeutically with different groups locally as a freelance artist in healthcare and charities. Using arts in healthcare and the community is a passion of mine, where I can promote how engaging in a creative process can enhance wellbeing, and support people to ignore the worry of what it might look like. During my exhibition I will be holding free collage workshops during Oxfordshire Artweeks between 16th-25th May between 10-4pm. Please see the Oxfordshire Artweeks website for full listing details.
