Exhibition information
My exhibition brings together three distinct facets of my work. It features acrylic landscape paintings inspired by light cast over rolling hills and the Oxfordshire countryside. Traditional detailed copper plate etchings with a variety of subject matter from animals and birds to places that I have visited. Digital drawings featuring multi image prints of gardens and detailed drawings of animals there will also be some multi media work. I shall also be demonstrating printing drypoint plates.
Artist information
Jane Peart
After graduating from art college I worked in a design studio in London. I then moved to Oxford in 1978. Having previously had some experience of etching in London, I signed up for a course at Oxford Printmakers Co-operative. I then concentrated on etching for many years building a strong connection with Oxford Printmakers working for a while as a technician there.
In the last few years, since lockdown, I started branching out into other areas of work – digital drawing, acrylic painting and pen and ink and mixed media drawings.
Inspiration My ideas often arise from animal and bird studies and I endeavor to show the detail and texture of the skin, fur or feathers of the subject. Other inspiration for my work comes from my immediate surroundings, small glimpses of everyday scenes or places I have visited in England or abroad. The aim in my work is to portray the characters of the animals I am drawing, or to capture the mood of a scene that has inspired me. I strive to create the texture and feel of the subject I am drawing or painting.
Commissions These include books, brochures, information panels and a series of drawings for a property development company in Oxford. I was commissioned to make a commemorative piece of animal illustrations for a Professor of Zoology at Oxford University, this was created digitally. The Oxford Radcliffe NHS Hospital Trust commissioned me to make a 42-plate etching depicting hospital life – architecture, people and technology. I have also completed a series of etchings and paintings of a large house and gardens in Hampshire.
Collections I have work in the collection of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford; Kew Gardens; Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital, London and The Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Trust.
Exhibitions I have exhibited my work widely in galleries and art fairs throughout the UK. Until recently I have exhibited annually at the Affordable Art Fair in London and regularly take part in Oxfordshire Artweeks.
I am a member of Oxford Printmakers and the Oxford Art Society.
