Exhibition information

At my Artweeks exhibition this year, you can see new works based on what inspires me from walks in the woodland.  It can be a moment of light, a particular view or the column-like nature of a tree which fires my desire to capture what I’ve noticed. I also love the interplay of light and shade as it moves through the trees as the clouds shift. Some areas in the dark, others bathed in light. Strong shadows on the ground always seem to guide you through the scene. This is what I aim to achieve in my paintings.  I use vibrant, heightened colour to add emotional impact, drama and interest to the work. I also love birds, whose colours are already harmonised by clever nature. I paint birds and animals to capture their fur and feathers and character.  I do also add colours that aren’t really there to add interest to the painting and offer something different to the viewer.

Artist information

Jo Lillywhite is a painter from South Oxfordshire, UK. Her bold style comes from strong use of colour, compositional perspective and good depth – qualities that help her paintings stand out as different and refreshing. She loves to capture light and shadows and add a modern and interesting twist to portraying the woodlands and countryside which continually inspire her. Largely self-taught, she continues to develop her practice by pushing colour and exploring use of mediums appropriate to the mood she wants to evoke. Predominantly working with acrylics and pastels, she enjoys their versatility to add multiple layers and interest to the work. Jo is an exhibiting member of the Reading Guild of Artists and Henley Arts & Crafts Guild. She is also a Board member of Oxfordshire Artweeks.
