Exhibition information

In this exhibition, I present a selection of my work encompassing landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, with a predominant focus on watercolour.

The landscapes and floral compositions are inspired by some of England’s most cherished natural scenes. The Lake District, in particular, offers moments of awe — from rugged rock formations and crystal-clear waterfalls to serene lakes and ancient woodlands. Each painting reflects both the challenge and exhilaration of capturing these vistas, conveying the unique sense of magic and perfection found in nature.

My approach blends realism with abstraction, inviting the viewer to experience both the tangible beauty of the scene and the subtle, often hidden qualities that lie beyond the visible. Through brush and colour, I aim to reveal the layers of emotion, energy, and wonder that these landscapes evoke, creating works that celebrate the extraordinary in the everyday.

Artist information

My name is Pepa Yordanova. I am an artist, educator, and religious narrator, born in Bulgaria, where my artistic journey began in early childhood. Art has always been my vocation. For many years I worked as an art teacher, guiding children to discover their own creative voice and develop a lasting relationship with making.

In 2019, I relocated to Oxford, embracing change and continuing my practice beyond language and cultural borders. My attention and time are shaped by many different aspects of creation, and I enjoy working across a wide range of scales — from intimate miniatures to large canvases and works for churches and public spaces.

At the heart of my work lies a desire to peel back the obvious, revealing the subtle and often unnoticed layers that give art its deeper meaning. My greatest passion is icon painting, with works held in churches and monasteries. Alongside this tradition, I explore abstraction, where freedom from structure allows intuitive expression and spiritual release.
Working with materials such as watercolour, oil, tempera, charcoal, sanguine, and ink, I see art as a lifelong devotion — from its first discovery in childhood to the end of days. Through my work, I invite viewers to slow down, look more deeply, and connect beyond the surface.
