Exhibition information

Starting out as a photographer before pursuing a less restrictive interpretation of the medium, I now work with imagery in all its forms, printed on a variety of substrates from large acrylics to tiny tea bags. I’ll be showing a wide variety of work in May from moody landscapes of Oxford and the Thames to abstract colourful work, botanical macro work and mixed-media print work with photographic images at its heart.

I’d love to show you the variety of work I am producing at the moment, some of which has immediate local appeal, and some which blurs the line between reality and abstraction. Other images serve as the foundation for a diverse range of mixed media and printmaking, while experimentation with traditional and contemporary processes has led to a new collection of jewellery.

I’m happy to explain my processes, show you the sometimes surprising and beautiful ways photography can evolve into other art forms, or help you create your own experimental images.

The venue is wheelchair accessible and there is plenty of on-street parking nearby, while the river itself is a few minutes’ walk away.

Please get in touch if you’d like to visit mid week or in the evenings.

Artist information

Etain O’Carroll is a fine art photographer who often works with alterative techniques to create imagery that pushes the boundaries of traditional photography. Using intentional camera movement, slow shutter speeds, Polaroid emulsion lifts and experimental techniques she has developed herself, her work spans portraiture, landscape, macro photography and digital imagery to create an impression of the world around us rather than a faithful reproduction of it.

While a camera is her main artist’s tool, the unpredictability of these experimental photographic techniques creates results that are often more painterly than viewers expect.
