Art & Talking: Fountain exhibition Saturday February 7th - Sunday March 1st 2026 One hundred and nine years ago, Duchamp’s Fountain turned the art world upside down. As artists and critics debated whether this was art or a hoax, the artist’s designation of the porcelain urinal as a readymade changed the course of modern art.  In 1636, Queen Henrietta Maria, together with her husband Charles I, visited the Rock of Enstone in Oxfordshire.  The object which gave its name to the place was a garden fountain shaped like a large stone and completely covered with plants.  The fountain required a “fountaineer” to manipulate the valves on its many water pipes and was situated on an island.  The island was reached by a foot bridge. Artist information

We have a small historic building on a pedestrian street in the 12th Century Market square, showing exhibitions on the upper façade facing the A44 and over two internal galleries, a small bookshop, a collection of prints and rare editions and a small collection of town artefacts, a liminal space with artisan jewellery cabinets, and a garden. We also use Chipping Norton Town Hall, Chipping Norton Theatre, and the Cotswolds area of outstanding natural beauty.
