Exhibition information
I’ll be displaying my work at Mill Street Arts in Eynsham alongside siblings Paul Tomlinson (drawings) and Jane Tomlinson (paintings), and Julie Sailing-Free (paintings). Please do come along and see what I am sure will be a varied and eclectic show!
My prints will be available in various sizes (or to order), as well as range of items such as cards, coasters and bookmarks. I also have a range of local ‘Travel Prints’, a contemporary twist on the classic early 20th century genre.
Artist information
I am a photographer based in West Oxfordshire, where I’ve lived and worked for over 40 years. As the son of an Army Officer, I travelled extensively as a child which is probably why I have stayed put most of my adult life! Although I’ve always had a camera since childhood, it’s only in recent years that I’ve pursued my photography with real intention, building projects that explore both natural and urban environments.
My preferred medium is monochrome, which allows me to focus on texture, shape, and tone, and I work primarily in a fine art documentary style where I’m drawn to contrasts: between old and new, light and shadow, decay and renewal. Much of my work reflects a quiet attention to these transitions, whether found in overlooked architectural corners or fleeting human moments within them.
Oxford and its surrounding areas is a recurring subject in my work, not just as a historic city, but as a lived environment over hundreds of years that is constantly changing. My series, Oxford: Light and Dark, reflects this ongoing interest, using night photography to explore the city’s quieter moments, whilst Ephemeral Oxford explores the juxtaposition between the city’s enduring architecture and the fleeting transient moments of those who pass through it.
I also spend a lot of time in South Wales and I enjoy the opportunity the get my regular dose of sea air whilst taking images of the beautiful Gower Peninsula coastline.
Recently I have started to put my art ‘out there’ (this will be my first Art Weeks). You’ll also regularly find me at the Friday Art Market on Gloucester Green in Oxford and I have had success with images being accepted for exhibitions in Glasgow and Athens this year, as well as being featured in a number of online exhibitions.
