Artist information

I am a local artist, working with mixed media to explore both internal and external landscapes. My work tends to be mainly abstract although there are often recognisable features embedded in the final piece. My favourite mediums are acrylic painting, collage, paper making and photography, although I have included techniques as diverse as knitting and embroidery to create a body of work that has included installation and sculpture.

My recent work has revolved around themes related to our internal dialogues and the relationships we have with those around us. At the same time exploring the structure of the brain or the influence our immediate environment has upon us. I am particularly influenced by the work of women artists such as Kiki Smith, Mona Hatoum, Frida Kahlo and Tracey Emin. Even so I have an abiding reverence for Van Gogh and Edvard Munch. All of these artists explore the self and it’s relationship to the external environment.

Exhibition information

The three of the images in this exhibition explore patterns and shapes created by the melting ice on my garden pond this spring. They are collages created with papers I printed to explore texture. I then looked at the lines and angles of the lily leaves and the cracks in the ice. How they dissect the image and relate to each other. For me the pond is a place of calm so I have tried to convey that atmosphere in the images.

I have done several smaller pieces which will be in my browser.

The other two pieces on display are Pink Ammonite and Blue Cells. Both are earlier pieces and acrylic paintings.
