Artist information

Sculptor in stone based in Bampton, West Oxfordshire, although my studio is in the grounds of Cokethorpe School near Witney. I was a teacher of science and photography for over 30 years but now don’t let that get in the way of my creative life.

In my spare time I am a volunteer First Responder for the Ambulance Service.

Exhibition information

I make sculptures for home and garden inspired by natural forms. I work in stone on a scale from pocket size to bigger, statement pieces. Much of my sculpture work draws from patterns, movement and forms seen in nature on daily walks in the Oxfordshire countryside and elsewhere. Crashing waves; trout leaping as I swam with my dog in a Welsh lake; the multiple images of photography pioneer Eadward Muybridge; Rob MacFarlane’s writing; the interlocking circles that our lives and the creatures around us weave…I work in a variety of stone, often ‘found’ or reused pieces scavenged from building projects or skips, or quarry offcuts. Favourite stones include Ancaster weatherbed and hard white, Bath Hartham stone, alabasters and serpentines alongside gold leaf. In addition to my own work, I teach very popular Sculpture-in-a-Day courses throughout the summer and early Autumn.
