Artist information

Caroline began painting full-time in 2020 after a career as an orthodontist.

She recently completed a Diploma in Classical Drawing & Painting at the Edinburgh Atelier of Fine Art and is a newly elected member of the Oxford Art Society.

“I combine traditional techniques with contemporary themes and pigments to create chromatic, classically inspired oil paintings. Each of my paintings is a careful exploration of composition, colour and form.

I love the translucent quality of oil paint and by experimenting with different pigment mixes and coloured grounds, I aim to create luminous light-filled paintings.

Though loosely realistic, I hope my work allows viewers to engage on different levels. At first glance my subjects are ordinary, but objects within any painting are more deeply observed than we manage in everyday life, and I enjoy playing with the concept of ‘value,’ reinterpreting the mundane or overlooked.

I am continuing to learn so much from each one of my paintings. I hope they provide a moment of joy to brighten your day.”
