General Press Release for Artweeks 2007
Artweeks is for everyone: artists open up their studios for the 25th oxfordshire artweeks visual arts festival
Close to 1,000 artists to participate in Artweeks 2007, 12th May to 3rd June
For three weeks in May and June, Oxfordshire will be decorated with the familiar blue and yellow flags and posters of the annual Artweeks festival. Between 12th May and 3rd June, artists all over the county will open up their studios or stage exhibitions to give members of the public the chance to see their work and in many cases meet the artists themselves. Special events, workshops and exhibitions around the county celebrate Artweeks and offer a host of opportunities for people of all ages to get involved and experience work from the county’s artists.
Artweeks is a festival open to everyone. There are no admission charges, you don’t have to
says David Attwooll, Artweeks Chairman.know about art
, and there is no pressure to buy where there is work for sale,This year is special too as it marks our 25th Anniversary. From small beginnings we have now grown to nearly 400 sites containing work from up to 1,000 artists, but we have kept our original aims of allowing the public and artists to make direct contact with each other.
Artweeks 2007 takes place 12th May to 3rd June. The festival starts in Oxford City, then moves the next week to South Oxfordshire and onto North Oxfordshire in the final week. Full listings for every exhibiting artist plus details on special events are available in the 100-page Artweeks Guide which is available from early April at public places around the county, such as libraries, bookshops, hotels and galleries. Full information is also posted on www.artweeks.org, a valuable electronic guide to Artweeks where you can download the Guide as well as search for artists by name, genre and location.
Artweeks Gallery
Artweeks is also launching a new online gallery at www.artweeks-gallery.org, which is a permanent exhibition of Artweeks artists’ work. The artist can show up to six images of their work with description and links to their own website plus full contact details. The Artweeks brand is widely recognised so we expect to draw many visitors looking for works of art from Oxfordshire artists. Not only will this be a great benefit to participating artists, but as it grows it will become the definitive online guide to art in Oxfordshire,
explains Caryn Paladina, Festival Director.
