News - Limited Edition for Vale of White Horse and South

Joan Durbin, a volunteer Artweeks co-ordinator in the South region, has organised a taster exhibition of work being shown across the Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire. This varied collection of work from 28 artists will be on display at the Vale and Downland Museum in Wantage.

The artists have been asked to submit one piece of work each, and there are paintings, sculpture, ceramics, stained glass, textiles and jewellery. The artists themselves are just as diverse, ranging from talented craftspeople to renowned professionals, including Joan herself and Jago Pryce, chairman of Oxford Art Society, who’s image ‘Chilling out with Daisy’ is shown here.

The South region covers a wide area, and there are contributions from Thame, Cumnor, Sandford-on-Thames, Wallingford, Didcot, Upton, Blewbury and Wantage. Each work is labelled with its Artweeks site number so you can find them easily in the Artweeks Guide and follow up with visits to the artists’ studios and galleries. The Guide is free and will be available at the exhibition and from many local outlets such as museums, libraries and tourist information centres.

The Oxfordshire South Artweeks Exhibition runs from 29th April to 9th May, opening times Monday–Saturday 10am–4.30 (closed Bank Holiday and Sundays). Call 01235 771447 or email museum@wantage.com. Full information about Artweeks 2008 plus an electronic version of the Guide, is on www.artweeks.org.
