John Stephen
John Stephen has been a very enthusiastic painter - life and abstract landscapes for over ten years. He is a zoologist and has a PhD in genetics; he works in the software industry and in that capacity has done a lot of advanced graphics for engineering disciplines.
John began painting and drawing ten years ago. He was chairman of Abingdon Artists for six years and won a prize at the OAS open exhibition in 2007. He has done a solo exhibition and several talks and demonstrations on his work.
He began by admiring the late Italian gothic painters; has also gained a strong respect for expressionist, primitive, and early cubist work; and he takes much inspiration from bronze age, archaic and classical works of Greece.
